New Legal Requirements for Directors and PSCsFind out about the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023.
Get in touch
From autumn 2025, every company director and Person with Significant Control (PSC) must verify their identity with Companies House.
This is part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, which aims to prevent the misuse of companies and strengthen
corporate transparency across the UK.
Even if you are a volunteer director of a residential management company, you must comply.
What You Need to Do
All directors and PSCs must:
- • Verify their identity through Companies House
- • Complete verification by autumn 2026 if appointed before the law takes effect
- • Use a personal code to confirm their link to each company they’re involved with
Failure to comply may result in:
- • Disqualification as a director
- • Inability to file legal documents (e.g. confirmation statements)
- • Fines or legal action against the individual or company
How to Verify Your Identity
There are three ways to verify:
- 1. Online via GOV.UK One Login (passport or driving licence) Link not live yet
- 2. In person at a UK Post Office (check eligibility first)
- 3. Through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) — typically a solicitor or
accountant who is registered with Companies House
Why We Can’t Do It for You
Cleaver Property Management is not an ACSP, so we cannot complete verification for you. The process must be:
- • Done personally by the director
- • Or carried out through a professional ACSP of your choice
However, we are here to guide and support you every step of the way.
What We’re Doing to Help
Cleaver Property Management have launched a structured support initiative to help our clients remain compliant:
- ✅ Notifying all directors about their responsibilities
- ✅ Providing clear instructions, template letters, and regular reminders
- ✅ Logging director progress via an internal tracking system
- ✅ Assisting boards with decision-making if a director refuses to comply
- ✅ Offering clarification and answering individual questions as needed
We’ve also created internal systems to monitor verification progress and follow up with any directors who haven’t acted - ensuring nothing slips through the cracks.
This isn’t just a box-ticking exercise!
it’s a major step toward greater corporate transparency and fraud prevention. Let’s stay ahead of the curve - together.
